Campbellton Welcomes Newly Elected Commissioners During October Meeting
The Town of Campbellton welcomed four newly elected commissioners during its regular Town Council meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the Community Center Building. The meeting included the swearing-in of elected officials, the organization of council leadership, updates on ongoing community projects and discussions regarding upcoming holiday activities.
The meeting began at 6 p.m. with Mayor Cotton calling the council to order and delivering the invocation, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. One of the evening's highlights was the oath of office for four commissioners beginning one-year terms. The officials listed for the ceremony included Rashard McKinnie, representing Seat 1; Kenneth Fey, representing Seat 3; Lukenta Davis, representing Seat 4; and Tammy Billups, representing Seat 5. Town Attorney McDaniel administered the oath of office.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, council members turned their attention to organizing leadership for the upcoming term. Commissioner Pamela Williams was selected to serve as Council President, while Commissioner Tammy Billups was chosen as Vice President. Both selections received unanimous support from the council.
Council members were also assigned responsibilities overseeing various areas of town operations. Commissioner Williams will oversee Buildings and Physical Environment, while Commissioner Billups will be responsible for Parks and Recreation. Commissioner Davis was assigned Public Safety, including the Volunteer Fire Department, and Commissioner Fey will oversee Roads and Streets. Commissioner McKinnie will be responsible for Water and Wastewater operations.
After approving the October meeting agenda, the council received updates on several ongoing projects throughout Campbellton. Paula Weeks provided information regarding current developments, including progress on improvements to local parks. Contractors have begun grading work at the park located behind Town Hall, marking another step toward improving recreational opportunities for residents. Meanwhile, construction at St. Paul Park remains on hold as the town awaits the arrival of new equipment. The council was also informed that the FDACS grant remains on hold.
Council members briefly discussed the possibility of establishing a social media presence for the town, which could provide another avenue for communicating announcements and important information to residents.
The meeting also included discussion of town equipment, with a trailer and Bush Hog noted among the items being considered for sale. However, the Bush Hog will remain on hold until officials can review the applicable grant window.
During the Parks and Recreation discussion, council members addressed concerns at the Community Center, including the possibility of adding reflective paint to the sidewalk to improve visibility.
With the holiday season approaching, commissioners also began discussing ways to bring Christmas cheer to Campbellton. Commissioner Williams presented sample Christmas cards that could be sent by the town during the holidays. A proposal for a Christmas parade was also discussed, along with additional activities intended to encourage community participation.
Among the ideas presented were a gingerbread decorating activity at the Community Center and a holiday decorating initiative that would award gift cards to residents with the best-decorated homes. The proposed activities would provide opportunities for families and residents to participate in the holiday festivities while helping spread Christmas spirit throughout the community.
Before concluding the meeting, the council scheduled a planning meeting for Wednesday, November 4, at 5 p.m., allowing members to continue discussions and preparations for upcoming projects and activities.
The October meeting marked the beginning of a new term for several Campbellton commissioners as town leaders continued addressing infrastructure improvements, recreational opportunities and community engagement. With leadership assignments established and several projects underway, the council will continue working on priorities intended to benefit Campbellton residents.
The meeting adjourned at 7:01 p.m.
