New Faculty And Staff Members Welcomed to Poplar Springs

Poplar Springs High School is starting a new school year with several new faces on campus. Returning administration team Beverly Sallas and Cynthia Goodson are excited to welcome all back to another successful year for the mighty Atomics.

New to the classroom but not to Poplar Springs is Mrs. Jenny Brantley. A graduate of Poplar Springs, Mrs. Brantley earned her Bachelor Degree from the University of West Florida. She is in her first year of teaching and will be leading the fourth-grade math and science classes. She and her husband, Terry have two kids, Eva and Henry. The family attends Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and in her spare time, Mrs. Brantley enjoys thrift store shopping, crocheting, and reading.

Lacy Brown is a new face to the office staff but not to PSHS. She graduated from Bethlehem School and continued her education at University of West Florida where she earned her BA in Exceptional Student Education and Elementary Education. She has been at Poplar Springs for 18 years and has taught a plethora of classes including, ELA 4-6, High School Exceptional Ed, gifted classes around the Holmes District, and Third Grade. She will be in the office as the Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator as well as TSA (Teacher on Special Assignment). Her goal is to pursue her Masters and further her education. She and her husband Zeb, have three beautiful babies, Ezra, Beau, and Quincy Jo. She is a member of Carmel Assembly and her hobbies include going to Disney with her family, traveling, gathering with family and doing anything in support of her babies. She finished, “I am thankful for the opportunity to serve in this capacity. Go Atomics!”

Leigh Brown is a graduate of Holmes County High School. She continued her education at Florida State University earning her Bachelor Degree. She is starting her 20th year in education with 13 years teaching ELA at Bonifay Middle School as well as Bonifay K-8 and 7 years teaching Art at Bonifay K-8. She will be teaching Middle and High School Art at Poplar Springs. She and her husband Tim have a ten-year-old son named Wyatt. Her hobbies include portrait drawing and she finished commenting that she enjoys, “seeing the creative side of my students, and seeing them love all things Art.”

Ryker Flam is a graduate of Archbishop McCarthy High School. He continued his education at the University of Central Florida where he earned his Bachelor Degree in Math and Minor in Actuarial Science. He is in his first-year teaching but has worked previously in SAT/ACT Prep and subject tutoring. He will be teaching grades sixth through eighth Math. His hobbies include painting, film, and gaming. He finished, “I am new to the area and excited to get to meet everyone!”

Brooke Johns is a graduate of Poplar Springs High School. She continued her education at the University of West Florida where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in K6 and ESE education. She has been in the education sector for 10 years teaching at Bonifay K8 and Bethlehem School. She will be teaching 4th grade ELA and Social Studies. She and her husband, Brian, have two children Cheston and Sidney and attend Ingathering Worship Center.

Allison Lowery is a graduate from Chipley High School before continuing her education at Northwest Florida State College where she earned her degree in Early Childhood Education. She has been a paraprofessional for six years and will be teaching 2nd grade math this year. She is married and has one son.

A new face to greet all in the front office is Jenny Oseguera. She is a graduate of Poplar Springs and has two daughters, Laney and Sofia. She is a member of Carmel Assembly of God and enjoys reading, baking, camping and relaxing in her free time. She commented, “I’m looking forward to this school year and being part of the Poplar Springs team. It’s going to be a great year! Go Atomics!”

Back in the Pre-K classroom is Jacquelyn Owen. A graduate of Jacksonville Christian Academy, she continued her education at Welch College where she earned her Associate of Science in Biology. She has been in the education sector for seven years teaching at Rocky Bayou Christian School in Niceville, Florida and Lighthouse Christian Pre-K, Antioch, TN, as well as at Poplar Springs High School a few years back. She will be helping teach Pre-K and continuing as the JV Cheerleading Coach. She is married to Poplar Springs’ Coach Jared Owen and they have one son named, Preston. She attends Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church, and her hobbies include crafting, sleeping in, and cheerleading. She finished, “Go Atomics!”

Megan Phillips is a graduate from Bethlehem School and continued her education at Brigham Young University – Idaho where she earned her Bachelor in Marriage and Family Studies. She has taught for one year at Mossy Head School where she was a 2nd grade teacher. She will be teaching first grade at Poplar Springs. She was excited to share that her 2nd grade class at Mossy Head School won 3rd place in a reading competition that took place across the US and Canada with only two Canadian schools beating them. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and enjoys art, singing, swimming, reading, and dancing in her spare time.

Leading the girls basketball team this year is Jarrod (JJ) Price. Coach Price graduated from Slocomb High School before continuing his education at Troy State University where he earned his B.S. in Secondary Education and M.S. in Educational Leadership. He has been in the education sector for 29 years spending that time at Slocomb High and Middle School as Principal as well as teaching P.E., Health, Biology, and Driver Education. He has also been the Basketball Coach for both boys and girls, assistant Football, baseball, and Head Golf Coach. He will be teaching Middle and High School P.E. as well as 10th grade Biology at PSHS. He commented, “My goal is to help produce students that are prepared for life after high school [and] to develop basketball players that are passionate and resilient.” He and his wife, Amy have a son named Cade and daughter named Ally. He is a member of First Baptist Church in Slocomb and enjoys spending time with family as well as attending Troy football games. He finished, “I am excited to be joining the staff and community and look forward to getting to know the wonderful people here.”

Hannah Shirah graduated from Holmes County High School and continued her education at the Baptist College of Florida (now Baptist University of Florida) where she earned her Bachelors in English and Minor in Student Ministry. This is her first-year teaching but she has subbed from 2021 to 2025 at eight schools and also worked as a paraprofessional at two schools. She will be teaching 7th Grade ELA and 7th, 10th, and 11th Grade Intensive Reading at PSHS. She commented, “I want to be the best teacher I can be and help students reach their full potential.” She is a member of Church of God of Prophesy in Chipley and enjoys reading, watching movies, going to church, spending time with family, friends and her cat, Chloe as well as teaching, sports and listening to music.
