70th Anniversary of FREA Celebrated by West Jackson Retired Educators

Retired educators entered a festive room at Los Amigos filled with balloons, adorable poppers filled with candy, and a beautiful 70th Anniversary cake celebrating the Florida Retired Educators 70th Anniversary this year. The West Jackson Retired Educators has been in existence for 36 years and was initiated by Mrs. Nick Williams as the first president. Twenty nine persons were in attendance.
Special guests included Melanie Waite and Bonnie Justice, officers from Santa Rosa County. Honored was fifth grade essay contest winner Lazaya Sorey who read her essay and two scholarship recipients. Jenna Friman received the tutor scholarship and spoke of her enriching experiences in helping several first grade students. High school scholarship recipient Miracle Kersey shared her goals in music education and will be attending Troy University. A devotional about lighthouses was read by Sue Johns.
The unit remembered Butch Kindig’s wife, Diane, with a memorial to the Gideons, presented by Larry Moore.
WJREA is pleased that Larry Moore will begin serving as the new president of the West Jackson Retired Educators. He will attend as the unit delegate at the FREA State Convention May 14-16 . The unit provides a beautiful basket for the convention and a trifold poster with all the year’s activities.
Lunch was enjoyed by all at Los Amigos and a beautiful 70th Anniversary cake was served.
The WJREA invites and welcomes retired persons that have been in education to join them for fellowship.
