Community Leaders and Businesses Come Together To Host Mother’s Day Event

Mother’s Day has long been recognized as a time to celebrate the women who shape families and communities through love, sacrifice, and unwavering support. On Sunday, May 10, members of the community joined with local businesses, churches, and volunteers to continue a tradition that has become a meaningful part of the Graceville community by hosting the annual Mother’s Day Celebration at the Graceville Civic Center.

The event once again brought together mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and families from across the area for an afternoon centered on fellowship, appreciation, and community spirit. Guests were treated to a free meal along with entertainment and activities designed for both children and adults. Throughout the afternoon, laughter and music filled the civic center as families gathered to celebrate the important role mothers play in the lives of their children and communities.

The annual celebration was originally inspired several years ago by a conversation local organizer and Graceville City Commissioner John McClendon had with a woman who shared how much she missed spending Mother’s Day surrounded by family. Wanting to ensure no mother in the community felt forgotten or alone on such a special occasion, McClendon worked alongside other men in the community and local businesses to organize an event where every mother could feel welcomed and appreciated. What began as a simple idea quickly grew into a yearly tradition that continues to expand with each passing year.

McClendon reflected on how meaningful it has been to watch the event continue to grow over time, noting that the celebration is ultimately about giving back to the women who spend so much of their lives caring for others. He shared that seeing families come together and mothers leave smiling makes all the hard work worthwhile.

Throughout the years, local businesses and community supporters have continued stepping forward to help make the event possible through donations, volunteer work, and sponsorships. Organizers said the generosity shown by the community each year allows the celebration to continue serving families throughout the Graceville area.

In addition to food and fellowship, children enjoyed activities and treats while many mothers received gifts and door prizes donated by area businesses. Organizers said the goal has always been to ensure every woman who attends leaves feeling valued and appreciated.

Community members packed the civic center throughout the afternoon, with many noting the event has become a cherished Mother’s Day tradition for their families. Organizers expressed appreciation to every volunteer, business, and attendee who helped make the 2026 event another success and said they look forward to continuing the celebration for years to come.
