FDOT announces section of Woodham Road to be closed for the next projected 255 days

The old wooden bridges, known to many in the area as double bridges, located on Woodham Road and over the Holmes Creek is no longer in use as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) officially begins work on replacing the bridges. The project is scheduled to span 255 days with construction officially starting this past Tuesday, July 16.

The primary objective of this project is to replace the existing two wooden bridges on Woodham Road over Holmes Creek with one continuous concrete structure. This comprehensive upgrade will include:

•Widening of the Roadway - The new bridge will feature 10-foot lanes and two-foot shoulders

•Paving the Approaches

•New Signs and Pavement Markings

•Minor Drainage Upgrades

To facilitate the construction of the new concrete bridge, additional right-of-way will be required. Consequently, Woodham Road will be temporarily closed at the bridge site, and traffic will be detoured for the duration of the project, approximately nine months.

The Jackson County Board of County Commissioners sent out an official press release on Monday, July 15. The release ended, “We [JCBOCC] understand that this closure may cause temporary inconvenience, and we appreciate the community's patience and understanding as FDOT works towards these essential improvements. We encourage all residents and commuters to plan their travel routes accordingly and allow for extra travel time during this period.”
