Graceville School welcomes nine new faculty and staff members

Graceville School is starting a new school year with several new faces on campus including a couple of school alumni. Kayla Wilson will continue as Graceville School Principal along with Assistant Principal Lori Lucien. Both are excited to welcome all back with a fun and successful year planned for Graceville School.

Tiffany Barnes is the new face that will be helping educate the youngest tigers in Pre-K. She has been in education for one year adding that she had just finished her degree in Elementary Education-Early Childhood. Her goal for this year is to make a fun and comfortable environment for the students to be able to grow and learn. She is most excited about being around the children and helping them learn and grow.

Shanerica Davis is a new face on campus that will be taking care of all the Tigers as the school’s new Health Aide. This will be her first time in the role in the education sector but she has nine years of experience in healthcare. Her goal for this year is “to get to know each student and each teacher and make sure we have a successful year.” When asked what she was most excited about for this school year she happily answered, “to work with the kids and get to know them.”

LaShia Davis will be teaching STEM and Web Production at Graceville School. She has been in education for four and a half years. She has also worked with an after school program on a Military Installation where she ran the technology lab. Her goal for this year is to “allow my students to ask more questions because I do a lot of talking,” she laughed. She is excited about being at a new school and becoming adjusted to the new system since her previous experience had been in Alabama. She continued that she is mostly looking forward to “getting to know the students and letting them lead the class.” She finished that she was most excited about watching the students work in groups, complete STEM projects, and get excited about learning.

Jeremy Elrod is a new face in the school’s transportation line as a school bus driver. He has been driving school buses for eight years. He is a graduate of the Baptist College of Florida now known as the Baptist University of Florida. His goal for this year is to take every child safely to and from school. He is most excited to be back in Graceville and become more involved with the community.

Baptist University of Florida graduate Sydney Hagan will be starting her career in education as the school’s new high school math teacher. She will be teaching Algebra, Geometry, Math for Liberal Arts, and College Algebra. Her goal for this year is to get invested in the community and have her students succeed the best they can. When asked what she was most excited about she replied, “getting to know my students and becoming a part of this awesome school.”

Alaina Holder is the new face that will be teaching some of the youngest Tigers as the new Kindergarten teacher. She has been in education for four years teaching 12th grade math, second grade, and two years in kindergarten classrooms. She graduated from the University of West Alabama with honors and was also a member of the Honor Society for Teachers. When asked if she had any goals for this year she answered, “Just to love on my students and get to know Graceville a little more.” She continued adding that she is most excited about the the community, meeting all the teachers and getting to know them.

Brittney Mitchem is excited to be educating young minds at Graceville School. She will be teaching first grade this year and her previous teaching experience includes spending two years in MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) Interventions. When asked if she had any goals for this year she laughed commenting “Just make it through.” She is most excited to meet the students and get to know each of them.

Dr. Bertha Roberts is a new face on campus who will be teaching Intensive Reading for grades 6 through 12. She has been teaching since 1979. In that time she earned her doctorate degree, was recognized numerous times as Teacher of the Year and taught in many educational institutions including Troy University. Her goal for this year is to “Take children from where they are and move them forward.” When asked what she was most excited about she enthusiastically replied, “I’m excited about learning and them learning from me.”

Alexandria Williams is not a new face to the Graceville campus, graduating from Graceville High School, but a new face as a teacher leading the school’s Pre-K class. She has been in education for several years spending three years teaching at Early Education and recently graduated with her degree in Education K-5th. Her goal for this year is to be the best teacher that she can be. When asked what she is most excited about she commented, “meeting all my students.”
