New faculty and staff members welcomed to Poplar Springs

Poplar Springs High School is starting a new school year with several new faces on campus. Returning Principal Beverly Sallas will be teaming up with Poplar Springs’ Lacy Brown who is the school’s new Assistant Principal. Both are excited to welcome all back to another successful year for the mighty Atomics.

Back in the Pre-K classroom is Annalaura Collins. She has been in education for five years. She recently finished her bachelors degree at UWF. Her goal for this year is “to have a great year and to teach all these kids everything they need to know to get ready for next year.”  She finished that she was most excited for the new school year.

Robyn Creighton is a new face on campus that will be teaching seventh, eighth and ninth grade Science. She has been teaching for over 10 years. Her goal for this school year is to make Science fun and enjoyable for her students. When asked what she was most excited about she commented, “Being a part of the Poplar Springs family.”

Terra Dodgins is a new face in the English department. She will be teaching English I for 9th grade as well as ELA and Reading for 7th and 8th grade. This is her first year in education and when asked about any special achievements she smiled and stated, “I feel like just being a teacher is an achievement to me. I’m really excited.” She was also on the Deans List while in college. When asked what she is most excited about she stated, “Just reading with my students. I love to read and I hope that some of them at least enjoy it as well.” She finished adding, “Since I’ve been here everybody’s been very, very welcoming. It is a great team. Everybody has been nice and helpful and super kind, and I’ve really enjoyed it. I’m glad this is the school I chose.” 

Cecelia Grissett will be teaching 5th grade ELA and 6th grade History. She is in her 30th year of education. When asked about any special goals she commented, “Just to get the kids comfortable where they learn and we can have some fun.” She is most excited about teaching 6th grade history. She finished stating, “I’m just thankful to be here.” 

Coach Tory Hussey is a new face on the Poplar Springs courts and ballfields. He will be teaching 10th grade World History as well as 7th grade PE and 9th through 12th grade PE. He is also the new boys basketball and baseball coach. This is Coach Hussey’s third year teaching but he has been coaching for the last 35 years. During that time he coached his football team all the way to the State Championship game. When asked if he has any special goals for this year, he commented, “We want to be as successful as possible and build some fine young men.” When asked what he was most excited about he commented, “Just meeting everybody new and interacting with all the guys and having a good year.

New to teaching at Poplar Springs but not new to the school is PSHS graduate Emily Middlebrooks. She will be teaching Kindergarten. She has been in the education sector three years with two of those years teaching. Her goal this year is “to make sure all my students feel safe and they get to learn and grow.” She is most excited about “being back home at Poplar Springs.” 

Andrea Lesko is another new face on campus. She will be teaching 7th and 8th grade Math, 11th and 12th grade MCLA and Gear Up for 9th grade. She is going into her 8th year in education. She just moved from Hillsboro County adding, “I’m really excited to get into a small town community and really get to know my students and their families.”  Her goal for this year is “to help my kids in class level up on their testing,” She finished adding, “I’m really excited about the community of the school because it totally different than anything that I’ve experienced before, and I’m just really excited for the school year and meeting my kids.”

Elisa Reagan is another new face on campus. She will be teaching 8th grade, 10th grade, 11th grade, and 12th grade ELA and Reading. This is her 17th year in education. When asked about any special goals she commented, “Getting to know the children here at Poplar Springs and being the best teacher I can be.” She added she is most excited about relocating to this area.

Chelsea White will be teaching first grade at Poplar Springs. She has been teaching for six years. Her goal for this is year is “for my students to make gains and have an exciting year.”  She is most excited to “learn new things with the students.”
