Lamar Sorey named finalist in “Elite 11” Armed Forces Merit Award

Graceville High School alumnus and current University of Florida staff member Lamar Sorey, is one of this year's "Elite 11" finalists for the Armed Forces Merit Award presented by the Football Writers Association of America, the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl announced in October. Sorey currently serves as a personnel assistant on the Gators football staff.

The Armed Forces Merit Award honors an individual and/or a group with a military background and/or involvement that have an impact within the realm of college football.

The recipient of this year's award will be announced on Nov. 9 on ESPN, and it will be determined by a selection committee consisting of seven FWAA members and two representatives from the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl.

A U.S. Army veteran, Sorey served as a logistic specialist from 2015-18. He was awarded the Army Achievement Medal in 2017 and the Army Commendation Medal is 2018. He is on his second season with the Gators, overseeing Florida's walk-on operation and serving as a personnel assistant for Florida's personnel department for evaluations and recruiting. A Campbellton-native Sorey graduated from Graceville High School in 2014 and is the son of Laymon and Felecia Sorey.
