Graceville resident Brittny Young was recognized earlier this year as the District 35L Lion of the Year. Young has been a member of the Graceville Lions Club for over two years and has worked tirelessly for “Lionism” since.

When asked why she decided to become a Lion, Brittny commented, “I have always loved volunteering. I was a Girl Scout Leader for 11 years. Once I was introduced to Lions and learned how they impact not only the community but the whole world I knew that is what I wanted to be a part of.”

She also spoke about how being a Lion changed her life. She started, “I have learned how impactful a community organization can be.” She then spoke about a personal experience that really made her love the organization stating, “When I was teaching and learned of a young girl whose parents could not afford glasses for her, I knew right away that the Lions Club could help with that. From then on, I knew that if you can change one life you can change many and Lions is a way to do that.”

Brittny’s favorite thing about being a Lion is “the fellowship.” She continued that there is not only fellowship “with the community members you meet, but the Lions from all over the world. Some of my greatest Lion friends live in Aruba. I love seeing the impact that they make in their communities. I am always on zoom with groups from all around the world to see what they are doing in their areas so I can see what we can do to better ours.”

When asked how she felt about being named District 35L Lion of the Year, Brittny stated, “I am truly humbled to be recognized like this by our District because I am one of MANY that work to make Lions what is it in our area. Lions are 1.4 Million strong and it takes us all to make the difference.” Brittny also recently earned the international president certificate of appreciation. The award is given to Lions who have performed a significant service to the association and is presented at the international president’s discretion. The major milestone is a true honor to any Lion with Brittny commenting, “It is truly an honor to be recognized by my fellow Lions. I love what I have been able to do in the few years I have been a Lions and look forward to what the future holds.”

Brittny is excited for her future with the Lions Club. She spoke briefly about it stating, “I have been planning to become District Governor in a few years. There are a lot of things that have to happen before that like being President of a club and Zone Chairperson, but it is a goal I have set my mind to. I love to see how Lions are impacting their communities all over our area and I want to grow that.”

She finished, “If you like to help people in your community and have a heart for volunteering, consider joining the Lions Club. No idea or need is too small. Check out the Graceville Lions Club website at gracevillelionsclub.com to see what we have done in our community and get more information. We are here to serve!” For more information on the Lions Club, how to become a member, or to get in direct contact with the president visit the Graceville Lions Club Facebook Page.
