Poplar Springs brings home dozens of awards from Beta State Convention

Poplar Springs Junior and Senior Beta all headed to Orlando last month to participate in the 2024 Florida Beta State Convention. The annual event included several state officers leaving office as well as one Poplar Springs student taking a new state office. Both groups brought home dozens of awards and are excited to be heading to the Beta National Convention this summer!

The school’s Junior Beta competed in both Elementary (4th and 5th grade) and Junior (6th through 8th grade) competition categories. The Elementary division took home two group awards and several individual awards. The group earned 1st Place in the Living Literature competition and 3rd place in the Robotics competition. In individual competitions, Poplar Springs had two members with 1st place wins. John Robert McCord in the Digital Enhanced Art category and Paisley Corbitt in the Jewelry category. Two other members earned 3rd place awards in individual competitions. River Powell in the Hand Drawn Anime art category and Gracelynn Pierce in 5th Grade Language Arts testing.

The Junior division of the school’s Beta Club also had two group awards and had several students place in individual competitions. The group received 1st Place in the Apparel Design category and 3rd Place in the Living Literature competition. LillieAnn Miller earned 1st Place in Black and White Photography. Earning a 2nd place award in competition was Mckenzie Bell in Color Photography and Maddie Bengry in Recyclable Arts. Receiving a 3rd place award was Mckinlee Stepp in the Vocalist competition and Kimberly Week in Mixed Media Art. The school posted about the wins on its Facebook page writing, “We are so very proud of all of our Jr. Beta Atomics that attended and competed this week at state convention! Way to go Atomics!”

Poplar Springs Senior Beta also attended the Florida Beta State Convention that same week. The group won several awards as well as brought home the new Florida Beta Vice President Laken Maddox. Not only was Maddox elected to the state office, but the group won 3rd place for their campaign skit. Two students also earned first place awards in individual competitions. Anderson

McCord received first place in the 10th Grade Social Studies Testing and Jacob Powell earned 1st place for his Mixed Media Art. The school also posted about the Senior Beta wins on its Facebook page writing, “We are extremely proud of our Senior Beta Club at Convention. They worked so hard!”
