Seniors SayGoodbye To Poplar Springs Baseball And Softball

The Poplar Springs Atomics baseball and softball programs both have two seniors graduating this year and playing their hearts out in their final season as an Atomic.

James Adam Gilmore is the son of JoLynn McIntosh and Jason Gilmore. He has played baseball for seven years and his favorite thing about the sport is “being able to play a sport that requires a lot of mind and skill.” He continued that his favorite thing about being an Atomic is “The people are all friendly and act like family.” He finished that his favorite thing about this season was, “We had a great winning season.” His future plans include running an electrical company.

Declyn Griffin is the grandson of David and Jackie Griffin. He has played baseball for 13 years starting on the field when he was five years old. His favorite thing about baseball is “the adrenaline and excitement after hitting the ball or winning a close game.” He continued his favorite thing about being an Atomic is “the bonds I made with friends over the years.” His favorite thing about this last season was, “we had a winning record my last season.” He finished that after graduation, “I plan on working construction straight out of high school.”

Taylor Griner is the daughter of Billy and Krystal Parrish. She has played softball for 12 years and her favorite thing about softball “is knowing as soon as I step on the field nothing beyond that mound matters at the time.” Her favorite thing about being an Atomic “is the friends and family you make along the way and how close we are.” She went on to add that her favorite thing about this season was “no matter how much we were down on ourselves for making an error or just thinking we weren’t good enough, my coaches never stopped pushing me and the team to play to the best of our ability.” Her future plans include going to Enterprise State and becoming an ultrasound tech.

Keelan Pelham is the daughter of Jeremy and Billie Jo Carter. She has played softball for 14 years commenting “my favorite thing about softball is how it feels being on the field, feels like nothing in the world is bad.” She continued speaking about her favorite thing about being an Atomic commenting, “my favorite thing about being an Atomic is the amazing support system.” She went on to add that her favorite thing about this season “was being able to help the younger girls grow and gain confidence.” Keelan’s future plans include getting her masters in Sports Medicine. She finished, “I just want to say thank you to the Poplar Springs community for supporting me and my team throughout the years, #2 out.”
